Fastpitch Softball Leagues:

Mars Baseball & Fastpitch Softball Association currently participates in the Greater Pittsburgh Girls Softball League. This league provides competition within Mars as well as neighboring community associations.

8U – Coach Pitch

This is coach/manager pitch softball, this is instructional yet still providing the girls with a bit of competitive experience. 11” softball is used at this level. No ASA/USA Softball umpires for these games.

10U – Modified Coach Pitch

At this level girls are introduced to basic fastpitch softball skills. Bases are 60’ with a pitching distance of 35’. 10 players are permitted on defense. Games are minimum of 6 innings with a 10-run rule after 4 innings.  A player can pitch no more than 3 innings per game. Girls pitch until there are 4 balls on the batter, then the coach comes in to pitch and the count resets.  A base runner may steal 2^nd and 3^rd base only.  11” softball is used at this level. ASA/USA Softball umpires are present at this level of play.

12U

At this level girls continue the basic and advanced fastpitch skills in a competitive setting. Bases are 60 feet with a pitching distance of 40 feet. 9 players are permitted on defense. Games are 7 innings with a 10-run rule after 5 innings.  There is no restriction on the number of innings a pitcher can pitch. Also, at this level the 3^rd strike rule is in effect. A base runner may steal 2^nd, 3^rd base and home plate. At this level girls are introduced to a regulation 12” softball. ASA/USA Softball umpires are present at this level of play.

Helmet w/ facemask

Gray baseball/softball pants

Cleats (nonmetal) and/or sneakers (for turf play)

Optional – bat (approved by ASA/USSA)
